چکیده

The octonionic flag manifold Fl(O) is the space of all pairs in OP 2 × OP 2 (where OP 2 denotes the octonionic projective plane) which satisfy a certain “incidence” relation. It comes equipped with the projections π1, π2 : Fl(O) → OP , which are OP 1 bundles, as well as with an action of the group Spin(8). The first two results of this paper give Borel type descriptions of the usual, respectively Spin(8)-equivariant cohomology of Fl(O) in terms of π1 and π2 (actually the Euler classes of the tangent spaces to the fibers of π1, respectively π2, which are rank 8 vector bundles on Fl(O)). Then we obtain a GoreskyKottwitz-MacPherson type description of the ring H∗ Spin(8)(Fl(O)). Finally, we consider the Spin(8)-equivariant K-theory ring of Fl(O) and obtain a Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson type description of this ring.

A Geometry Preserving Kernel over Riemannian Manifolds

Abstract- Kernel trick and projection to tangent spaces are two choices for linearizing the data points lying on Riemannian manifolds. These approaches are used to provide the prerequisites for applying standard machine learning methods on Riemannian manifolds. Classical kernels implicitly project data to high dimensional feature space without considering the intrinsic geometry of data points. ...

On quantum topology, hypergraphs and flag vectors

Each rule f that assigns a vector f(G) to an (n+1)-graphG determines a class (or property) of n-manifold invariants. An invariant v = v(M) is in this class if, for any triangulated manifold |G| = M , one has that v(M) is a linear function of f(G). This paper defines a flag vector f(G) for i-graphs, whose associated invariants might be quantum, and which is of interest in its own right. The defi...

Homeomorphisms vs. Diffeomorphisms * Liviu I. Nicolaescu

Consider the situation in Figure 1. The radial projection maps the boundary of the square homeomorphically onto the circle. The net effect of this transformation was to smooth out the corners, while leaving the topology unchanged. We can then ask if we can smooth out the corners of any topological manifold, and if so, are there many different ways of doing this. This turns out to be a very subt...

On Spin(7) holonomy metric based on SU(3)/U(1)

We investigate the Spin(7) holonomy metric of cohomogeneity one with the principal orbit SU(3)/U(1). A choice of U(1) in the two dimensional Cartan subalgebra is left as free and this allows manifest Σ3 = W (SU(3)) (= the Weyl group) symmetric formulation. We find asymptotically locally conical (ALC) metrics as octonionic gravitational instantons. Complex projective space CP(2) that is a supers...

Topics in Representation Theory: Other Topics

• Topology of G/T : Flag manifolds G/T have cohomology only in even degrees, with Euler characteristic the degree of the Weyl group. The Euler characteristic can be calculated by a Lefschetz fixed point argument (see Adams [1], pgs. 90-92 for this). Identifying the flag manifold with a co-adjoint orbit, there is a Morse theory calulation of the cohomology that goes back to Bott, for an outline ...
